Leo BROUWER
Dialogo de la Isla y el Mar (2017)
for cello & guitar
- Dialogos de la isla y el mar
- Manuscrito de la isla y el mar
- Inmenso mar de agua y fuego
The composer comments:
It is the sonata that I always wanted to do for cello and piano, now conceived for cello and guitar. I do not call it a sonata so as not to classify it as such. Conservative audiences and the performers in general, respect the sonata form very much and it would have been perhaps even more appropriate to name it that way because of the structure it has in three parts, although it is separated from the traditional scheme.
Brouwer practices intertextuality with a sense of spiraling in time. For example, in the first part he alludes to the Balada for flute and strings and to Manuscrito antiguo encontrado en una botella for piano trio, in the second movement to his Canciones remotas for string orchestra and the Concierto Elegiaco and in the last, to Los negros brujos de divierten for ensemble.
