Eduardo SAINZ DE LA MAZA
Platero y Yo (Suite para guitarra)
II. El loco
III. La azotea
VI. La tortuga
VII. La muerte
VIII. A Platero en su tierra
Composed in 1968, this is Sainz de la Maza's most substantial composition, not only in length but also in the harmonic language and technical demands it makes on the guitar. It has a sound world close to the Impressionist music of Ravel and Debussy whilst extracting the essence of traditional Andalucian music, since the lierary work on which it was written by (Juan Ramon Jimenez) and based in Andalucia.
This new critical edition by Jose Manuel Gonzalez is based on the primary sources of manuscripts and previous editions of the work. Musical readings and fingerings have been corrected using the composer's own annotations.
