"Indisputably the most brilliant musician and guitarist in
America of his time." (Ricardo Muñoz "La Historia de la guitarra", Buenos
Aires, 1930). García Tolsa(1858-1905) was reputably Arcas' favourite pupil,
he emigrated to South America in the 1880s like his countryman, Manjón.
Tolsa's music is well crafted with many modulations, inventive bass lines
and the generous use of chord inversions. His Tango was "appropriated" by
Tárrega who published it as his own composition, and the great Agustín
Barrios included several of Tolsa's works in his programmes.
