The generation of Spanish composers
after Manuel de Falla, included most famously Antonio Jose and

early decades of the 20th Century has increased, showing that
a substantial body of composers were writing innovative and
creative music for the guitar. This new collection brings
together for the first time some major works of this period in
newly engraved and edited editions. CD edition available. |

Carlos Garcia Tolsa |
Carlos
Garcia Tolsa
Collected Works for Guitar
Price: £18.50
"Indisputably the most brilliant musician and guitarist in
America of his time." (Ricardo Muñoz "La Historia de la
guitarra", Buenos Aires, 1930). García Tolsa(1858-1905) was
reputably Arcas' favourite pupil, he emigrated to South
America in the 1880s like his countryman, Manjón. Tolsa's
music is well crafted with many modulations, inventive bass
lines and the generous use of chord inversions. His Tango was
"appropriated" by Tárrega who published it as his own
composition, and the great Agustín Barrios included several of
Tolsa's works in his programmes. |
