Published in 1974, Petite Suite Medievale written by the Frenchmam Francis-Paul Demillac, born in 1917, refers not only through its title to medieval inspiration. The complete suite is written in church modes. Besides that there are numerous quotations of French Renaissance composers to be found throughout the whole suite. The appreciation of his most important compatriots of earlier days culminates within the third movement, where a poem of Pierre de Ronsard - A une jeune morte - is set to music. This is a reminiscence to the man, who put, being the head of the most important school of poets in French Renaissance - called Pleiade, the French language aside classical Latin and Greek.
